It is not easy for any of us to fill our tanks with gas approaching /gallon. Purchasing buyer items also costs more. Send a small holder and wonder why it costs so much. I am just an ordinary retiree who decided to use an open mind and investigate what is causing this issue. Like it or not, we cannot survive without foreign oil at this point in time. I cannot think of anything we do that does not depend on energy. Seventy one percent of oil used in America goes for transportation. The rest of the oil goes to grow our food, keep us warm or cool etc. We keep talking about alternative energy, but so far we have not come up with anything that provides more than a small division of our vigor needs. This narrative will focus on only our oil needs. My questions are why is gasoline is costing almost .00/gallon: Have we used up all of our oil? Do we have graft and fraud in the oil commerce instead of America's best interest? Why do we send so much money to countries, which hate us, for oil? How long can the working citizen keep /gal. Gas? Does the price of oil supervene our economy? The Bakken One oil source in the United States is called the "Bakken." This formation is located in North Dakota, Montana and extends up into Canada. In 2011, an assessment by Continental Resources Inc. (Cri) believes the Bakken could be the largest oil discovery in the last 30 to 40 years. Two discoveries in technology have made the extraction from shale possible. Horizontal drilling (is a process where they can drill vertically and then shift the bit to drill horizontally) and fracking (fracking is a process where they inject high-pressure fluid into the well and it fractures the rock formation too allow the oil to flow into the well.) Green River Piceance Basin The Green River basin, located in Western Colorado, Wyoming and Utah, contains more oil producing shale than the Bakken, a 2009 United States Geologic search for estimated 1.5 trillion barrels. The agency of vigor assessment is 1.8 trillion barrels of oil for this region. This is sufficient to provide the U.S. Needs for many years. The federal government controls about 70% of the Green River Basin. Some of us remember the hype 30 years ago when oil fellowships were going to form shale oil in Colorado. A whole town sprung up called Parachute, Co. In all activities were shut down and moved out! This left about 2200 workers without a job. citizen colse to that part of the country remember and are not anxious to have it repeated. The potential is there, but it is going to take strong leadership to start production again Alaska In 1968 the largest oil field in North America was discovered in the Prudhoe Bay area. This discovery was large sufficient to guarantee a 38 inch 800 mile pipeline terminating in Valdez. The pipeline was completed in 3 years and 2 months. 70000 citizen worked on the pipeline. In June of 1977 they were pumping oil and are still pumping in 2011. So in 3 years they built the pipeline, drilled the wells and started supplying oil. It is difficult to tell just how much oil could be discovered in Alaska because very tiny exploratory drilling has been allowed. The best guess is that there is a huge number of oil in the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge and along the coastal waters of Alaska. Offshore Drilling The United States produces 1.5 million barrels a day from offshore drilling. The 1.76 billion-acre Outer Continental Shelf. The shelf extends form 3 to 200 miles offshore and is rich with oil. Most of it is on the west coast from California to Alaska. The other big area is in the Gulf of Mexico. Southern California has 26 drilling platforms and 1500 wells operating. In the Gulf of Mexico there are over 172 drilling platforms which furnish 80% of the oil and 72% of the natural gas the comes from offshore drilling in the U.S. The 1981 moratorium on offshore drilling has left the Atlantic coast with very tiny oil exploration, but that will change as the moratorium was lifted in 2010. Natural Gas Natural gas is one of the cleanest, environmental amiable and most abundant sources of vigor in the U.S. I personally drove a truck over 90,000 miles burning propane, using the same set of spark plugs. I would change the oil and after 2000 miles it would look like it was fresh oil. For larger vehicles and fleet vehicles natural gas make all the sense in the world Conclusion Have we used up all of our domestic oil? We have ample oil if we can get it our of the ground. Why do our lawmaker keep ignoring this issue? I conjecture they may have forgotten that they were elected to describe the American people Do we have crooks in the oil industry? I can't say for sure, but whenever big money is involved--stuff happens. Why do we send money to citizen who hate us? We borrow money and send it to people, who hate our guts, so they can sell us inflated oil. Does the price of oil supervene our economy? Yes it is the same as a cut in pay for the midpoint family. Thirteen years ago we were told that drilling for oil in Alaska did not make sense because it would take 10 years before it produced any oil. When the north slope oil was discovered, in March of 1975, we not only drilled for oil, we built a 48-inch 800-mile pipe line crossing 800 rivers and three mountain ranges. And we did it in three years. The politicians tell us oil from shale is not cost-effective. Canada did not hear that so they went ahead and did it anyway. I hope you feel like I do and think it is time to," wake up America." We need to get started on developing petroleum domestically. We also need to put more resources into developing alternative energy. And we need to do it now. We do not need any more stalling, You can touch you representative here. http://www.usa.gov/Contact/Elected.shtml Us Domestic Oil |
